Donald Trump’s media company plans ‘unawakened’ streaming service with ‘cancelled shows’

Donald Trump’s media and technology company has pledged to develop a new streaming service TMTG+ – in a recent SEC filing – which will be seen as an “unawakened alternative” to Netflix and Disney+.

Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG) recently merged with publicly listed company Digital World Acquisition (DWAC) and took steps to go public, with expectations for regulatory approval to come before the end of 2022.

TMTG, which is backed by $1 billion from a number of different investors, started social media platform Truth Social earlier this year. With this latest news, it looks like the company is now planning to take on the streaming giants.

Yesterday morning, the former president’s company expanded on its plans in a prospectus filed with the SEC.

The document says programming on the platform will include “blue-collar comedies, canceled shows, Trump-specific shows, faith-based shows, family entertainment, shows that embrace the Second Amendment, and current affairs.”

It adds that the service “will provide a platform for conservative and/or libertarian views, and content otherwise canceled from other television and/or digital streaming platforms.”

TMTG+ will also include podcasts in its offer.

According to the filing, the subscription streaming release will be “similar to Netflix, Disney+ and other current offerings.” He adds, however, that despite its political nature, “TMTG intends to produce or acquire entertainment simply for entertainment. TMTG’s programming will thus provide an unawakened alternative to programs offered by streaming services that operate in an increasingly politicized environment. TMTG will not censor entertainment creators for TMTG+, or insist that its programming push any particular political ideology.

The decision to develop this platform was based on a “perceived acute need for quality programming that does not lecture its viewers or present only an ‘acceptable’ approach to a subject. Artists and creators have often been agents of change in our society. Major media conglomerates are becoming increasingly monolithic in their opinions, overruling those who disagree with the dominant narrative. TMTG believes that embracing diverse perspectives will differentiate TMTG+ in today’s crowded media and entertainment market.
