JOHANNESBURG – Friends, family and colleagues of the late TV personality and HIV activist Angie Diale remember her as a good listener who dedicated her life to helping others.
Diale died of pneumonia in a hospital in Krugersdorp on Christmas Eve.
“Mam’Angie”, as she was affectionately known, is commemorated at a memorial service in Soweto on Monday, where speakers shared how she touched their lives and changed them for the better.
Although a household name, to neighbors, colleagues and friends, Diale remained humble and always ready to help.
Thabo Khambule, who is the director of the SABC TV show, Report which Diale featured said Mam’Angie has helped others beyond the screen.
“The Great Thing About Mam’ Angie [is that] we all knew she was a counsellor, that’s her job, but uMam’Angie will take time for you. Even for my mother, even for the others.”
Khambule said Diale was talented and wise, but she remained modest and humble.
“UMam’Angie was a great listener because most of the time we work with celebrities, but uMam’Angie was so humble and had so much humility.”
The 55-year-old man will be buried on Wednesday.
