The FBCCI Standing Committee on Press, Media and Cultural Affairs will endeavor to resolve existing problems in print and electronic media.
The director in charge of the committee, Dr. Kazi Ertaza Hassan, took the initiative during the committee’s first meeting held on Thursday at the FBCCI office in the capital.
Earlier in the meeting, FBCCI Senior Vice President Mostofa Azad Chowdhury Babu said that the media plays a pivotal role in the socio-economic development of the country.
However, the sector suffers from various problems, in particular the price of newsprint is a big problem for newspapers, reports BSS.
Therefore, the senior vice president urged the committee to identify problems and potentials and make recommendations, according to a press release.
Babu also announced his intention to honor the businessmen who fought in the war of liberation and requested the help of the standing committee in this regard.
Vice President Md. Amin Helaly said media development is also important for the continued progress of the country.
He therefore assured that the FBCCI will provide all possible assistance to resolve the crisis in the print and electronic media.
Dr. Kazi Ertaza Hassan said rising paper and ink prices are the biggest challenge for newspapers.
The rise of online portals is shrinking the market for print advertising, which puts owners in an additional challenge. However, he assured to take initiatives to resolve these crises.
Dr. Hassan also announced plans to produce a documentary on expatriate freedom fighters and personalities who contributed to the war of liberation in honor of the late renowned journalist and writer Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury.
At the same time, he called on everyone, inspired by patriotism, to work together to build the Sonar Bangla of Bangabandhu under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Committee Co-Chairs Munir Ahmed Khan, Md. Jahangir Alam, Members Former Director General of Freedom Fighter Passports and Immigration Md. Abdul Mabud, Akkas Mahmood, Masud A Khan, Md. Amarat Hossain Sohag, Sheikh Moinuddin Reza Ali Chowdhury, Ismat Jerin Khan and Md Yusuf Khan also spoke.
The meeting was chaired by HR Committee Chairman Delwar Hossain Raja.
FBCCI Directors Syed Moazzem Hossain, Bijoy Kumar Kejriwal, Harun or Rashid and Secretary General Mohammad Mahfuzul Hoque were also present at the meeting.
