BBC Radio Tees presenter Paul ‘Goffy’ Gough joined media students from Catcote Academy in Hartlepool for the day to learn about how the radio and media industry works.
The event was organized by Jackie McGarry, the Academy’s Careers and Employment Coordinator.
Jackie said: ‘We asked Goffy if he would share his advice, knowledge and experience with the students and he joined us free for the day.
“It was a brilliant experience for everyone involved.
“Our aim is to inspire students and days like this play a huge role in allowing students to see what is possible in the careers they have chosen.”
The event took place at the Center for Excellence in the Creative Arts, King Oswy Drive, Hartlepool.
The morning session included a presentation from Goffy’s 30 years of professional experience from his local mobile nightclub to work at stations such as Century Radio, TFM and Metro.

In the afternoon, the students took part in a radio show as they chatted with Goffy about their own aspirations, favorite songs and positivity on the two-hour live show.
Goffy commented: “I was more than happy to help and it was a fantastic day with the students and their teachers. They thrived when we put on our afternoon radio show and loved talking about their hopes for the future.
“It was clear they all shared a passion for music and it was a joy to see them all so confident in front of a live microphone. Radio is a great way to work as you can inspire people and lift their spirits .
“I hope the day has helped shape possible career directions for students – if not, at least it has given them a positive view of what can be achieved if you have the desire.”
Stephen Hann, Professor of Media at the Academy, said: “It was a brilliant day for all of us and we all benefited a lot from it.
“The students were buzzing throughout and it was nice to see them being so involved.”
Goffy is expected to return after summer break to involve students in radio production and content.
