Traineeship: “Hines is an unscripted TV intern for entertainment agency William Morris Endeavor (WME) in New York City. In his role, he works on projects assigned by agents and their assistants, particularly seeking out potential new clients. He also follows agents and their assistants to find out for themselves what their days are like.
How HPU helped you get there: “HPU taught me the power of networking. Networking can seem daunting, but it’s as simple as reaching out to people you want to talk to, and most of the time they’ll be interested in talking to you too. Meeting weekly with Assistant Director of Career and Professional Development Brandon Floyd has given me the confidence to reach out to recruiters and company employees. The experiences and positions I have accumulated at HPU have given me an array of skills that I use to excel in my internship and career. Guidance counselors in the Office of Career and Professional Development taught me how to contact employers, helped me build my interview skills, and even gave me book recommendations on networking. A career goal I had at the start of the school year was to intern away from home this summer. Because I worked with guidance counselors, I made that happen. I’ve also sought and continue to seek advice from peer career counselors when I need a little advice on fine-tuning my resume and cover letter. »
Most Impactful Mentor at HPU: “HPU Broadcaster-in-Residence Professor Joe Michaels is my most influential mentor. He continues to teach me the ins and outs of the media industry; I could sit and listen to him tell stories all day. His tips and tricks have been instrumental in how I apply myself and approach people in the industry. »
What was your internship experience like and how does it prepare you for your future? : “As this is my first internship, I can see what the real world is like and I have a lot of freedom as an intern to be as creative as I want with my projects. I get an overview of the media industry, which will help me navigate the career path I want to pursue after graduation.
