Joel Matip is the only member of Liverpool’s regular starting squad to not have a social media account.
However, in his absence, a Twitter account called ‘No Context Joel Matip’ has been set up, and the page is regularly shared on the Liverpool WhatsApp group.
The account has amassed over 90,000 followers, including the Reds’ Virgil Van Dijk and Alisson.
Van Dijk took the joke even further when he appeared at a club photo shoot wearing a t-shirt with an image of Matip’s face on it.
And Matip himself even recognized the meme page when speaking to Liverpool.
“It’s funny and I think I make a lot of people laugh, so it’s not too bad.
“I can laugh at myself, that’s absolutely no problem. I look at this and say, ‘Ah, that’s quite funny’.
“If someone else did it, I would laugh too. I would have no problem laughing at myself.
“I can laugh at some things when other people are doing something, but I can also laugh at myself.”
