Lincoln Riley faces heightened interest in who he starts at quarterback this week after Oklahoma benched former Heisman Trophy contender Spencer Rattler last week in the win over Texas as Caleb Williams took over in the 55-48 win.

Rattler was 8 of 15 passes for 111 yards with an interception and a lost fumble. Williams was 16 on 25 passes for 212 yards and 2 touchdowns.

The question is who the Sooners will start this week against TCU. However, Riley apparently doesn’t want to talk about it since The Daily, Oklahoma’s student newspaper, reported on the QB practice snaps.

The Daily watched the offensive training regimen from a public building near the OU football training ground, with no athletics employees discouraging the sighting. The Daily does not observe training regularly, but did so on Tuesday with heightened interest given the situation.

The newspaper reported that Williams was seen clashing with the Sooners’ first-team attack by The Daily in training on Tuesday, while Rattler worked with the second team. Late Wednesday morning in Oklahoma,
KOCO-TV’s Carson Cunningham reported that OU football has canceled all media availability through Saturday.

The newspaper also spoke with Rattler’s father.

“Right now he’s focused on working for this team, and we’ll see what happens after January 10,” Mike Rattler said. “Hopefully he plays in the national championship on January 10 and then after that we will assess where he is to the extent that teams are interested in him in the NFL, we will take that into account.

“If we’re thinking, ‘Hey, you know what, maybe we should do another year or something in Oklahoma, wherever that is’…we leave our options open as far as that’s concerned, but for the most part, in Right now, we don’t even talk about it, because it has a job to do.
