Could we be about to witness another major move involving a wide receiver, after the 49er ominously deleted all of his team-related social media posts?
49ers Deebo Samuel deletes team-related social media posts
It’s been a completely crazy offseason in the NFL this year and most certainly as far as wide receivers go. We saw that Davante Adams was traded from the Green Bay Packers to the Las Vegas Raiders, while Kansas City Chiefs star Tyreek Hill moved to the Miami Dolphins in two blockbuster trades. Still, it looks like the dust hasn’t settled yet as news of other wide-ranging talent continues to circulate.
Most recently, the San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel did his part to start the rumor mill by unceremoniously deleting his 49ers profile picture on Instagram, unfollowing the team and deleting more than 80 different posts from his account. Could this be the start of something big? There are many who think so.
There’s also DK Metcalf, AJ Brown and Terry McLaurin
It should be noted that Samuel is entering the final year of his rookie contract, which could suggest that he is trying to work his way up. On the other hand, there are actually a handful of other top-tier WRs that may hit the market soon. DK Metcalf, Terry McLaurin and AJ Brown, for example, have been at the center of intense speculation recently and to add fuel to the fire, it was reported last week that the New York Jets were “keeping tabs” on Metcalf, Brown and Samuel, having failed in their bid to bring the previously mentioned Hill to the Big Apple.
So what about Deebo Samuel’s move?
The interesting thing to note here is that the 49ers WR is coming off of what must be considered a bumper year. With 77 catches for 1,405 yards and six touchdowns, he was also used as a running back by San Francisco and believe it or not, he posted 365 yards on 59 rushes with a remarkable eight touchdowns. With these kinds of figures, we can imagine that he will have no trouble finding a team if he really had to leave.
As for how much we can actually get from Samuel’s apparent cleanup of his Instagram account, perhaps one could cite the case of Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray, who did something similar earlier in the game. the off season. At the time, many saw it as a sign that trouble was brewing, and to some extent they were right. Murray has made no secret of the fact that he wants a new deal and apparently intends to get it. His agent would later issue a lengthy statement demanding that the Cardinals re-sign his client if they were serious about winning a Super Bowl. This of course brings us back to Samuel. Is Samuel trying a similar tactic in that he tries to pressure his team into offering a new contract? Maybe, but if there’s one thing that’s been learned in this off-season so far, it’s that nothing is ever what it seems.
