Virgin Media Ireland is to offer its services to an additional 450,000 households, businesses and other organizations across the country following an agreement with SIRO.
The ESB-Vodafone joint venture is rolling out a fiber broadband network across Ireland.
Under the agreement, Virgin Media Ireland will be able to access and offer its products and services there.
The move will significantly expand the reach of Virgin Media Ireland, whose own network is capable of delivering speeds of up to 1Gbps to one million premises.
“Today’s announcement increases the reach of our network to 70% of all sites in Ireland,” said Virgin Media Ireland Managing Director Tony Hanway.
“Our new partnership with SIRO means we will bring our market-leading superfast broadband and TV services to more Irish consumers and businesses than ever before.”
SIRO plans to expand its network to a total of 154 cities and towns, reaching 770,000 locals and 2.1 million people.
It is currently capable of delivering speeds of up to 2 Gbps to residential customers and, following a planned upgrade, this will increase to 10 Gbps.
Virgin Media Ireland will become one of 20 retailers that will resell access to the SIRO network and offer services on it.
