Donald Trump’s media company is hiring for its next streaming service in hopes it will become the right-wing’s answer to existing streaming platforms like Netflix, Disney+ and Hulu.
The Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG) made the announcement in an ad posted Wednesday that described the streaming service, named TMTG+, as “a ‘Big Tent’ platform providing widespread entertainment rooted in free speech.” .
He said the company was looking to hire a content development manager to create programming for TMTG+.
He added that “in addition to the Truth Social social media platform, our SVOD [Subscription Video on Demand] the TMTG+ platform will host a wide variety of unscripted, scripted, and original content.”
The announcement described the Content Development Manager’s role as someone who “will generate and develop internal concepts for original unscripted content, short series episodes and specials”, stay “abreast of trends in development on the networks” and “will stay on top of emerging talent and upcoming unscripted programming”.
In a separate announcement, the company posted a requirement for a content acquisition professional “to oversee content licensing and acquisition.”
“This is an exciting opportunity for someone to put their stamp on a new and exciting SVOD platform,” the announcement said.
The ideal candidate for the role will need to “identify content for licensing, source ownership and negotiate distribution rights for our SVOD platform.”
Mr. Trump had announced that he was launching TMTG in October.
Liz Harrington, spokeswoman for Mr Trump, previously said the company could be valued at $1.7 billion if a merger with front company Digital World Acquisition Corp was pending regulator approval.
TMTG owns both the TMTG+ streaming channel and Truth Social, an app the former president hoped could compete with Twitter after he was banned from the platform following the Jan. 6 Capitol uprising. Last year.
Truth Social, which launched in February and described by the former president as an effort to “fight back at Big Tech,” has struggled to gain momentum after a series of early misfires.
A few days after its debut, users complained that their accounts were not activated and in April, this platform saw a 93% drop in downloads compared to March.
According to TMTG’s vision statement on the company’s website, the conglomerate is a response to “liberal bias”.
“If Big Tech can censor the President of the United States, then they can censor anyone,” the statement said.
“To counter this liberal bias and dangerous exercise in tech monopoly censorship, Donald J Trump and TMTG intend to create a media and technology company rooted in social media, digital streaming, technology infrastructure information and more. In 2021, the media pendulum has swung dangerously far to the left,” he added.
“TMTG intends to level the playing field.”
