To recognize and reward excellence in the broadcast media industry, the Broadcasting Organizations of Nigeria (BON) has announced the country’s first industry-wide awards and recognition event, the Nigeria Broadcasting Awards. (TNBA).
The TNBA, which was to be held in October, was announced in Lagos on Tuesday, where the logo for the event was also unveiled by BON Chairman, Mr. John Ugbe.
The Chairman of BON, who is also the Managing Director of MultiChoice Nigeria, said the awards were instituted to formally celebrate the excellence of broadcast media professionals responsible for providing daily news, illuminating audiences and entertaining audiences. Nigerians.
He revealed that the decision to establish the TNBA was taken during the BON’s 76th General Assembly, which approved the composition of the Awards Steering Committee comprised of public and private broadcast media under the chairmanship of Mr. Guy Murray- Bruce, Chairman of the Silverbird Group.
Ugbe also announced the appointment of Strategic Outcomes Limited as a consultant to the awards steering committee.
“BON therefore organizes the Nigeria Broadcasting Awards (TNBA) to recognize and reward excellence in the broadcast media industry,” Ugbe said.
Both BON and non-BON members are eligible and will have 13 categories. These include Radio Station/Best TV Station of the Year, Best Radio Station/Best TV – English News, Best Radio Station/Best TV Station – Native Language, Best Radio/Best Television Station – English Original Production and Best Radio/Best Original Production from a Native Language Television Station.
They also include awards for Best Radio/Best Television Station in an English Documentary/Movie, Best Radio/Best Television Station – Native Language Documentary/Movie, Best English Radio/Best Television Show and best native language radio/tv program. .
Others are News Anchor of the Year – Radio/TV, Reporter of the Year – Radio/TV, Anchor of the Year – Radio/TV, and Special Contributions to the Broadcasting Industry.
Murray-Bruce, chair of the awards steering committee, expressed hope that the awards will inspire broadcast media professionals to adopt higher standards of practice.
BON is the umbrella organization for all private, public, commercial and community electronic media organizations in the country and has more than 300 broadcasting platforms among its members.
